Mushens Entertainment Autumn Rights Update

We are delighted to celebrate the following UK and international sales that have happened in September and October. We are also looking forward to the upcoming November releases. Have a read below to see what we have been up to:

Rights 

  • After becoming a bestseller and selling over 50,000 copies in the past two weeks, THE COUPLE AT NO 9 by Claire Douglas has sold to Planeta in Spain. Furthermore, Norwegian rights to THE COUPLE AT NO 9, JUST LIKE THE OTHER GIRLS, THEN SHE VANISHES, and DO NOT DISTURB have sold to Gyldendal.

  • German rights to THE HOUSE OF FORTUNE have been taken up by Insel, who will also reissue THE MINIATURIST just before publication of the sequel. Italian rights have also been taken up, by La Nave di Teseo.

  • Carla Josephson at The Borough Press has acquired UK & Comm (ex Canada) rights to ROOTLESS by Krystle Zara Appiah, at auction, in a six-figure, two-book deal, to publish in hardback in Spring 2023 as a lead title. North American rights were also snatched up by Chelcee Johns and Ballantine in a one book, six figure deal. They will also publish in Spring 2023 as a lead title. Furthermore, Dutch rights have sold to Signatuur!

  • Finnish rights to THE WOLF DEN by Elodie Harper have sold to Bazar, Italian rights have gone to Fazi, and Romanian rights went to Editura Trei.

  • THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE has sold in Israel to Tchelet, and in Croatia to Egmont - bringing Richard Osman’s second novel to its 25th territory!

  • Spanish language rights to EIGHT PERFECT HOURS by Lia Louis have been taken up by her option publisher, Planeta MX.

  • James Oswald’s NATURAL CAUSES and THE BOOK OF SOULS have been continued by his Russian publisher AST. Russian readers will continue to enjoy his books for more years to come!

Signings

  • Liza DeBlock has signed Stacey Thomas for her debut historical novel THE REVELS, which follows Nicholas as he’s apprenticed to a witch-hunter, and must hide the fact that he himself is a witch. Set amongst the English Civil War, Nicholas must choose to either protect himself or stand up for those he loves.

  • Juliet Mushens has signed Jane Dolphin for debut historical novel. JUNKANOO follows white-passing heiress Sapphire in 1820s England as she is forced to hide her heritage but is also irresistibly drawn into the emancipation movement.


News

  • We are celebrating having the #1, #2, and #3 paperback, as well as the #1 hardback title on The Sunday Times Bestseller list for two weeks this past month. Richard Osman took both #1 spots, while Abigail Dean was #2 with GIRL A, and Claire Douglas was #3 with THE COUPLE AT NO 9

  • Meanwhile, THE HAUNTING SEASON, a very spooky anthology of stories featuring Laura Purcell became an instant Sunday Times bestseller, charting at #7 after only a few days of sales.

  • This week, Richard Osman is #1 in paperback and #2 in hardback, after an impressive 5 weeks in the double number 1 slot, and THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB is celebrating more than a year on the bestsellers list in either hardback or paperback.

  • Claire Douglas’ THE COUPLE AT NO 9 has now sold over 75,000 copies across all formats in the UK. Meanwhile, Abigail Dean’s GIRL A has now sold 47,000 copies in paperback alone, and another 80,000 across other formats, bringing us to total sales of 127,000 copies in the UK - and it has been in the top 5 for a month.

  • Lastly, Jennifer Saint’s incredible historical debut, ARIADNE has been shortlisted for Waterstones Book of the Year!


November Publications:

11th November: NOWHERE TO RUN is the latest in the Constance Fairchild series from James Oswald. It is out in hardback from Wildfire.

23rd November: THE BONE SHARD EMPEROR by Andrea Stewart is the unmissable sequel to THE BONE SHARD DAUGHTER. A tale of magic, revolution and mystery, where a young woman’s sense of identity will make or break an empire. Out in hardback from both Orbit UK and US.

25th November: TWO FOR JOY is the chilling conclusion to THE MAGPIE SOCIETY by Amy McCulloch and Zoe Sugg. Audrey and Ivy determine to bring their fellow student’s murderer to justice, but first they must find a friend who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. This is out in hardback Puffin.

25th November: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE ON SOCIAL MEDIA by Sarah Day and Claire McGowan reimagines what would happen if the classic novel played out online. Out in hardback from Hodder Studio.
