Cary Gitter is the author of the novel Cammy Sitting Shiva (Alcove Press, 2025). He has also written the plays The Steel Man, Gene & Gilda, and The Sabbath Girl, among others, and cocreated the musicals The Sabbath Girl and How My Grandparents Fell in Love. His work has appeared off-Broadway and at theaters around the country, and he is the playwright-in-residence at Penguin Rep Theatre in Stony Point, New York. Cary is a three-time O’Neill Center National Playwrights Conference semifinalist, a two-time Jewish Plays Project finalist, and a finalist for the Arts Council of Rockland’s Literary Artist Award. He holds a BFA in dramatic writing and an MA in English and American literature from NYU. He grew up in New Jersey and now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
