Literary Assistant Vacancy

Mushens Entertainment is seeking a literary assistant to Juliet Mushens, to provide high-level administrative support across her best-selling client list. This role requires someone who is confident in dealing with a variety of people, reads fast and thoughtfully, and has good attention to detail. You will be happy doing administrative tasks, take pride in being organised and have the courage to show initiative. This is a job which will give you a broad and helpful grounding for any future industry role – exposure to major bestselling brands, an insight into high level publications, and experience working with a wide range of genres.

This role is split 3 days a week from our London office and
2 days working from home.


Roles and Responsibilities to include 

  • Reading client manuscripts and submissions

  • Dealing with queries from clients, publishers and the internal team

  • Deal memo and contract checking

  • Sending proof requests to authors

  • On-boarding new clients and making sure their information is up-to-date

  • Preparing invoices and payment chasing and tracking 

  • Receipt and expenses processing

  • Managing our info inbox

  • Some scheduling and travel booking

  • Keeping the office tidy and welcoming for visitors: monitoring the post and shelving books where appropriate

  • Talent spotting on self-publishing platforms and social media

  • Attending book launches and out of hours events to support our clients


You will have

 At least 1-2 years’ experience in a related role 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a particular emphasis on attention to detail

Strong time-management with the ability to prioritise and shift focus dependent on urgent tasks

A can-do attitude and the ability to think laterally and problem solve 

A love of commercial fiction and a familiarity with and appreciation of Juliet’s client list

Excellent discretion and judgement

 

Salary and benefits:

£31,500-£34,500 dependent on experience

5% pension

25 days’ holiday (in addition to Bank Holidays), plus an additional day every year after 2 years’ service up to a maximum of 30 days, plus an additional 5+ days over Christmas
