Jeff Koehler is the award-winning author of ten books about art and food.

His most recent work is Matisse in Morocco, published by Pegasus Books in 2025. It was The Art Newspaper’s June Book Club pick and the Wall Street Journal’s “Best Reviews of August.”

His previous books include The Spanish Mediterranean Islands Cookbook (Phaidon, 2025), The North African Cookbook (Phaidon, 2023), Where the Wild Coffee Grows (Bloomsbury, 2017) and Darjeeling: A History of the World’s Greatest Tea (Bloomsbury, 2015). They have won a James Beard Award, been chosen as an Editors’ Choice for the New York Times, paperback of the week in the Guardian, Book of the Month Club selection, been given a starred review in Kirkus and been included in ‘best of’ roundups in numerous publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Le Monde, Corriere della Sera, National Geographic Traveller, NPR’s ‘Here and Now’, Science, Nature, Smithsonian, Mother Jones, Entertainment Weekly and Bustle.

His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, NPR, BBC, Wall Street Journal, Times Literary Supplement, South China Morning Post, Vogue Arabia, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Saveur, Food & Wine, Bloomberg Pursuits and many other publications. Koehler grew up north of Seattle, did post-graduate work at King’s College London and RADA and has lived in Spain since 1996. He divides his time between Barcelona and Menorca.
