Johan Renck attached to direct Girl A adaptation

Variety Magazine has reported that Johan Renck (Chernobyl), is in negotiations to direct a limited series adaptation of Abigail Dean’s upcoming debut, Girl A. Renck recently won an Emmy for outstanding limited series as well as outstanding directing for a limited series for his work on the show Chernobyl. He has also directed and been involved with Bloodline, Breaking Bad, and Vikings among others. Renck would direct Girl A for Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures at Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Girl A, written by Abigail Dean, will be published in 2021 by HarperCollins in the UK and Viking in the US. Juliet Mushens at Mushens Entertainment sold the debut novel after a nine-way auction in the UK and then went on to sell it in 26 other territories. Film rights were negotiated by Paradigm on behalf of Mushens.

Girl A tells the story of Lex, a successful lawyer who was known anonymously during her childhood because she escaped her religious fanatic parents’ house of horrors. However, following the death of her mother, Lex is forced to face her siblings and their dark past.
