Chapel Vane’s The Blood Maiden pre-empted by Gollancz

Gollancz has acquired the dystopian debut from Chapel Vane, the pseudonym of Charlie Castelletti, editorial director at Hodderscape,
in a six-figure pre-empt deal.

In The Blood Maiden, citizens must let nine drops of blood a day to keep the monsters behind the city’s steel walls at bay.
But Vesper Thornwood cannot afford to bleed as she is "a witch hiding in plain sight [as] she survives on black-market blood
and her brother’s poison kiss – magic that is slowly killing him".

The Blood Maiden will publish as Gollancz’s lead title in summer 2028.
